Keeping the conference's footprint down

An energy conference should count its own emissions. This page says what we do, what we measure, and what we do not claim.

Travel

Rail first

Travel is most of a conference's footprint. From anywhere in Great Britain, the train is a practical way to reach Aberdeen.

  • Direct trains run from Edinburgh and Glasgow. The Caledonian Sleeper leaves London in the evening and arrives in Aberdeen the next morning.
  • If you fly, the Jet 727 bus runs from the airport to the city centre. Share taxis where you can.
  • We are asking rail operators for a delegate discount. None is agreed yet. If one is, we will add it here.
  • Student travel grants fund rail travel first. See students and early-career researchers.
At the conference

Food, giveaways and paper

Vegetarian by default

Catering is vegetarian by default, with vegan options. Meat dishes are available on request: tell us when you register.

No single-use giveaways

We do not hand out single-use bags, gifts or printed inserts.

A digital programme

The programme is in the conference app and on this website, so you do not need a printed copy.

Measuring

The footprint, published after the conference

After the conference we publish the measured footprint in kg CO2e per delegate, on this page. We publish the method with it: what we counted, where the figures came from, and what we left out.

We make no carbon-neutral claims. We report what was emitted, and aim to make it smaller next time.

Questions or ideas are welcome at hello@axisconference.org.
