Call for abstracts: AXIS 2027
Researchers, engineers and policy specialists are invited to submit a structured abstract of up to 300 words in one of seven energy-transition tracks. Industry case studies are scored on the same criteria as research. The deadline is 11 December 2026, 23:59 UK time.
What presenting at AXIS gives you
A route to publication
Accepted authors can extend their work for the proposed indexed proceedings and a journal special issue.
Industry delegates
Every track has an industry co-chair, and operators, regulators and the supply chain attend the sessions.
Awards and grants
Best Paper, Best Student and Industry Impact awards, and sponsored travel grants for students.
CPD certificate and listing
A CPD-hours certificate, and your talk listed in the online programme and the delegate app.
Abstract requirements
Abstracts are written as plain text in four labelled paragraphs, so that reviewers can compare like with like. The sample abstract shows the format.
- Up to 300 words, in English, following the four-part structure
- A title of up to 20 words and up to five keywords
- All authors and affiliations, with the presenting author marked
- Your preferred track and presentation format
- One figure or table, if it helps (optional)
- Work not presented or published elsewhere, with clearance from your employer, partners or clients
Seven tracks
Choose the closest fit. The co-chairs can move an abstract between tracks, and work at the edges of a track is welcome. Topics are indicative.

Six ways to present
State your preferred format when you submit. The programme committee may offer a poster instead of an oral slot to balance the sessions.
Oral presentation
15 minutes plus 5 for questions, in one of the seven tracks. Slides are uploaded by 26 January.
Poster
A0 portrait, displayed in the exhibition hall for all three days, with a poster session on Tuesday.
Industry case study
A reviewed field report, lessons learned or deployment story, presented in the industry sessions.
PGR showcase
A 3-minute talk with one slide plus a poster, judged for the Best Student Award.
Research Image Competition
A picture from your research. The winner becomes the cover of the printed programme.
Virtual presentation
For authors who cannot travel: present live or pre-recorded with a virtual presenter pass.
How abstracts are assessed
At least two members of the scientific committee review each abstract. Review is single-blind: reviewers see the authors' names, but authors do not see the reviewers'. The track's industry co-chair reads every abstract in the track. Review is rolling: most authors hear back within about ten days, and all decisions are sent by 21 December 2026.
Novelty
What is new compared with the state of the art or current practice.
Rigour
Sound methods, data or field evidence behind the claims.
Relevance
A clear link to an energy-transition problem in one of the tracks.
Clarity
Problem, approach, result and value, stated plainly within the word limits.
From acceptance to publication
- 1
Register
The presenting author registers and pays, or requests an invoice.
- 2
Upload slides or poster
Upload the file in your portal so the session chair has it in advance.
- 3
Present in Aberdeen
Check in at your session room 15 minutes before it starts.
- 4
Extended paper (optional)
Submit a full paper for the proposed indexed proceedings or the journal special issue.
Every accepted abstract will also appear in an open-access book of abstracts with its own DOI, published on Zenodo after the conference. The proceedings volume and special issue have been proposed to the publishers and are subject to their approval. See publications for the current status.
Submissions open on 8 November 2026
You submit and follow your abstract in the delegate portal. You can edit it until the deadline, and reviewer comments appear there after the decision.
- Create an accountOne account covers submission, registration, invoices and your certificate.
- Submit your abstractPaste the four paragraphs, add the authors, keywords, track and format.
- Follow the decisionYou are emailed when the decision is ready, usually within ten days.
Questions authors ask
Can I submit more than one abstract?
Yes. Each abstract is reviewed separately. One person can present up to two, and each accepted abstract needs one paid registration.
Will the deadline be extended?
Plan for 11 December. Any extension will be announced on this page and by email to account holders before the deadline passes.
Can a co-author present instead of me?
Yes. Change the presenting author in your portal before 15 January 2027, and make sure that person registers.
I need a visa. Can I get an invitation letter?
Yes. Once your abstract is accepted and you have registered, you can download an invitation letter from your portal. Apply for the visa early.
Can I withdraw after acceptance?
Yes, by withdrawing in your portal or emailing [email protected]. Refunds follow the terms.
